What This Support Is

This is practical and emotional support in your own home and in the community. It is help with the things that get harder when your mental health is poor. Getting up, eating properly, keeping appointments, staying connected to people.

It is support, not treatment. We are not a therapy service and we are not a crisis service. Your care and treatment stay with your GP, your community mental health team or whoever is already involved. We work alongside them, doing the practical part.

Most of the people we support are adults living with conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. What we do is shaped by the person, not the diagnosis.

How We Help

Structure to the day

Getting up, getting washed and dressed, and having something in the diary. When routine goes, everything else usually follows.

Meals and self care

Shopping, cooking, eating properly and keeping on top of the basics when motivation is low.

Medication prompting

Reminders at the right times so prescribed medication is not missed, with further support agreed in the care plan.

Appointments

Reminders, help getting there and, where you want it, someone with you.

Getting out again

Walks, groups, classes, the shops, volunteering or work. At your pace, starting as small as you like.

Company and someone to talk to

Not therapy. Just a reliable person who turns up, listens and does not make a fuss.

Support Around the Home

Keeping on top of the flat or house is often the first thing to go and the hardest to face. We can help with laundry, washing up, tidying, post and phone calls, without making anyone feel judged about the state of things.

You Decide How This Works

This support only works if it is yours. At the assessment we ask what you want it to look like, not the other way round.

  • What days and times suit you, and what does not
  • What you want help with, and what you would rather do yourself
  • How much conversation you want, and when you would rather be left in peace
  • What a difficult day looks like for you, and what helps on one
  • Whether you want the same carer each time, and any preference about who

Plans get reviewed and changed. If something is not working, say so and we will change it.

If You Need Help Now

This page is about ongoing support, not urgent help. If you or someone else needs help right now:

  • Call 999 if there is an immediate risk to life
  • Call 111 and choose the mental health option, available at any hour
  • Contact your crisis team directly if you already have their number
  • Call Samaritans free on 116 123, at any time, day or night

Working With Your Mental Health Team

Most people we support already have professionals involved. A GP, a care coordinator, a community mental health team, sometimes a social worker or a housing support worker.

We fit around them. With your agreement we share what we notice, flag changes and take part in reviews. We do not make clinical decisions and we do not change anything about your treatment.

How Care Starts

  1. 1

Tell us what is happening. You do not need a referral to call us.

  2. 2

A free assessment, at home or somewhere you feel comfortable.

  3. 3

A plan written with you, then a carer introduced before support begins.

Yes, with your agreement. We share what we notice, flag changes and join reviews where we are asked to.

Yes. Some weeks need more, some need less. Tell us and we will adjust it rather than holding you to a fixed timetable.

Often, yes. We usually start with something practical and low pressure, and we do not push. Trust takes as long as it takes.

Wherever the rota allows, yes. It matters more here than almost anywhere, and we build the rounds around it.

Not us. Use the numbers above, or your own crisis team. Our office is open during working hours and we are not an emergency service.
