A Friendly Face and a Bit of Help
Not everyone needs help washing and dressing. Plenty of people are managing perfectly well and just find the house getting on top of them, or find the days very quiet since their husband died and the friends they had have moved or gone.
That is what this is for. A regular visit from somebody who knows you, who puts the washing on and makes a cup of tea, who runs you to the shops and stays for a chat. No fuss, no uniforms full of clipboards, no sense of being taken over.
What We Help With

Company and conversation
Sitting down properly with a cup of tea. The crossword, cards, the football, photographs, or just catching up on the week.
Getting out
The shops, the market, appointments, church, the club, the hairdresser, the cemetery or a friend's house.
Around the house
Washing, ironing, changing the bed, hoovering, the dishes and keeping things straight.
Meals and shopping
The weekly shop and something proper cooked while we are there. For fuller support with eating and nutrition, see our practical care and nutrition page.
Post, bills and phone calls
Opening the post, reading letters, filling in forms and dealing with the people who will not stop ringing.
Pets and the garden
Feeding the cat, walking the dog to the end of the road, watering things and keeping the yard tidy.
This Is Not a Cleaning Service
It is worth being clear about the difference. A cleaner comes, cleans and leaves. Our carers do the jobs as part of a visit, but the visit is about you.
So the washing goes on while the kettle boils, and the conversation carries on while the beds get changed. If all that is wanted is a spotless house, a cleaner will do it better and cheaper. If what is wanted is somebody reliable turning up who notices how you are, that is us.

Company Matters More Than People Admit
A lot of the enquiries we take start with something practical. Help with the ironing, a lift to the surgery. Quite often the ironing was never really the point.
Weeks go quiet after a bereavement, after friends stop driving, after the last of the family moves away. A visit that is in the diary every Tuesday changes the shape of a week. It gives somebody something to look forward to, and it means one person who would notice if things were not right.
Starting Small, Growing Later
Many of our clients start here, with a single visit a week, and never need anything else. Others find that after a year or two a bit more help would make life easier.
Because the same office and often the same carer continues, adding a hand with a shower or a morning call is a conversation rather than a fresh start with a new agency. Nothing has to change until you want it to.
